The New G&S is comprised of Gregory DiBona, pianist, and Samantha Stiner, contralto. Their duo focuses on bringing contemporary classical music to the forefront of the industry.
How it all started
While at the University of Wyoming, Samantha cultivated an interest of contemporary music. On a whim she put out a call for scores for contralto. The response from the call was overwhelming and she received over 150 scores to peruse. What was originally meant to be a short recital turned into a huge project. Dozens of phenomenal scores were sent in and only a few could be put on a recital. Through this project something became very evident: There is a massive shortage of high quality performances of contemporary classical music.
During this process Samantha realized that she was not going to be able to do this alone. She called her very close friend and accomplished pianist, Gregory, to help out. Thus, The New G&S was born.
The first performance of the duo was at Hot off the Press, a recital hosted by the University of Wyoming. There have been multiple performances since, with an ever-evolving repertoire, including in the fall of 2017 at Immaculata University of Pennsylvania.
In the Fall of 2018 the duo will travel to Boise State University in Idaho to premiere a song cycle written by award winning composer Eric Alexander.
Samantha and Gregory collaborate often and have 2 new recitals brewing so stay tuned for updates!
